Festive Film Guide

Nothing gets you more in the festive spirit than a Christmas film. Now more than ever, we truly do need a bit of extra help getting into the swing of things! This year, there seems to be an endless choice of Christmas films, some better than others. That’s why we’ve created a festive film guide to help you and the family decide what films to watch over the bank holiday weekend. From the classics such as The Grinch to the fantastic short-film Angela’s Christmas, there are so many films to keep kids of all ages occupied.

1. Klaus

This movie centres around a rather spoiled boy called Jesper, who works in the North Pole. Jesper is told he must deliver 6,000 letters in a year. Exploring the local town, he finds a community torn apart by resentment and bitterness. However, he finds one welcoming person, Klaus, a carpenter who devotes his time to making toys for children.

As Jesper warms to his large, bearded friend, he starts to thaw the hearts of the local townspeople. Jesper soon finds himself imbued with that classic Christmas cheer. This heart-warming film will certainly help teach a few lessons, but also show that friendship can come in all forms.

2. Angela’s Christmas

Set in Ireland in the 1910s, ‘Angela’s Christmas’ is a funny, uplifting and touching story about the power of family and the desire of a child to ensure everyone is safe, warm and loved at Christmas time. This short 30-minute film is perfect for kids with short attention spans. You just can’t go wrong with remarkable animation, a great holiday story, and a fun story that manages to tug on the heart strings.

 3. The Grinch (2000)

A classic film loved by any age. This hilarious story follows the reclusive Grinch who decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his dog Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to steal all the Christmas presents from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who.

This scrooge inspired story is guaranteed to make you all laugh, through Jim Carrey’s wonderfully funny facial expressions to his sarcastic wit.

4. Arthur Christmas

This movie shows Santa’s exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole helping to deliver all the presents in time for Christmas Day. At the centre of this movie is a story about a family in a state of witty dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an important mission to deliver a forgotten gift before Christmas morning dawns. The famous actors behind the characters are sure to get the family interested from Jim Broadbent to James McAvoy.

5. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure

If you’re a fan of Frozen, you’ll love this short film featuring all the favourite characters! When the kingdom of Arendelle empties out for the holiday season, Anna and Elsa realize that they have no family traditions of their own. So, Olaf sets out on a merry task to bring home the very best traditions and save Christmas.
