Terrific Tiger Facts

We’re not ‘lion’, this week it’s World Tiger Day – isn’t that grrr-eat?! To celebrate these majestic wild cats, we want to share our favourite facts!

  1. At full speed, tigers can run up to 40 miles per hour. They may be big and heavy, but they certainly aren’t slow movers!

     2.   These fierce felines have walked the earth for over 2 million years. WOW!

     3.   No two tigers have the same stripes. Every tiger has their own unique pattern on its fur.

    4. India is the country with the largest number of wild tigers. Around 3,000 of the world’s wild tigers are in India.

    5. Tigers are silent hunters. They have soft toe pads that help them walk quietly. A tiger will typically travel 6-12 miles during a night’s hunting. 

    6. During the day, a tiger’s stripes can act as camouflage, allowing it to blend in with its surroundings for stalking its prey.

    7.  Unlike most other cats, tigers are great swimmers and actually like the water!

    8. Last but not least, tigers are the largest cat species in the world, reaching up to 3.3 meters in length and weighing up to 670 pounds!
